Jeonguk Choi is a South Korean artist working primarily in time-based media.
Choi makes performative work that cultivates sensitivity to frustration, confusion, and obsession that arises in encountering miscommunications around his identity--specifically of being gay, Korean, nonimmigrant, and male in the US. Each work is a part of his ongoing search for reflective and responsible processes of reclaiming, remodeling, and redistributing such dis/misinformation. Choi hopes to nurture productive curiosity that will inspire truthful communication.
Choi holds a BA in Visual Arts and Computer Science from Bowdoin College (Brunswick, ME) and is currently pursuing an MFA degree at the University of Maine (Orono, ME). His work has been presented at Yale School of Music (New Haven, CT), Center for Maine Contemporary Art (Rockland, ME), SPACE Gallery (Portland, ME), New Systems Exhibitions (Portland, ME), and Edinburgh College of Art (Edinburgh, UK) among others.
I'd love,,, to hear from you...!~
